Patricia Kanashiro

Faculty

Patricia Kanashiro has over 20 years of experience operating at the nexus of business and academia in the US and Brazil, embedding sustainability in strategic planning and implementation for organizations. Currently positioned at a leading global firm, she advises clients on sustainability risk assessment, operational oversight, strategy alignment, metrics, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting. Previously, Patricia served in sustainability-related roles at ABN AMRO Bank, Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS), and the United Nations’ International Labor Organization (ILO).

Patricia earned her BBA at the Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo da Fundação Getulio Vargas (EAESP-FGV) in Brazil. As a Fulbright scholar, she completed her MA in international development from the University of Pittsburgh, and later earned an MS in economics and PhD in strategic management at The George Washington University. Patricia’s professional credentials and sustainability certifications include Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Certified Sustainability Professional, Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) Credential Holder (SASB Standards, Level I & II), and Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) courses. Her publishing portfolio includes numerous peer-reviewed journal articles on sustainability and co-authorship of three books: Handbook of Multi-Level Climate Actions: Sparking and Sustaining Transformative Approaches (2023), Business Ethics: Best Practices for Designing and Managing Ethical Organizations, 3rd ed. (2021), and Personal Sustainability Practices: Faculty Approaches to Walking the Sustainability Talk and Living the UN SDGs (2021). Patricia’s contributions have been recognized by media outlets like The Washington Post, Financial Times, and Fox News.
